South Africa: Cell C Shakes Up Industry With Big Streaming Deals To Subscribers
South Africa Cell C have notified the public of new data offerings designed to increase use of social media and streaming services on their networks.
Cell C has said that, for the next three months, it will provide all customers free streaming on, SA’s newest video-on-demand platform known as 'black'. Subscribers on Cell C can stream music, sport, movies, series, kids’ entertainment, news, and live TV channels on their mobile devices.
Cell C CEO Jose Dos Santos said: “We know that one huge challenge to gaining access to streaming content is the component of data. Therefore, for the next three months, any existing or new black customer that is subscribed to the Cell C network would not need data to be able to download or stream their shows."
Any Cell C customer, whether prepaid or contract, will have access to this promotion, which begins on 7 May until Friday, 10 August. There is no opt-in required meaning browsing the black platform is zero-rated, so customers looking around to see what is available will also not be charged for data if they are Cell C customers.
However, customers who click through to betting platform and ticketing service will be charged according to their data plan. Also not included in this promotion is National data roaming. Black customers that are on other networks will not benefit from the free data promotion.
The Chief Executive of black, Surie Ramasary said: “Our promise to our customer is affordability and flexibility for what you want. Go on, sign up for the 7-day free trial, and start binge-ing with black."
On Black, a division of Cell C, customers can watch blockbuster movies like Star Wars: The Last Jedi; kids’ animated movie Ferdinand; and the comedy-remake, Jumanji, starring Dwayne Johnson and black series like the multiple award-winning tv series, The Fixer starring Kerry Washington.
