Nigeria: Another Varsity - Bayero University , Kano - To Launch Radio Station
The quest for hands-on training in broadcasting for students in Nigerian Universities has led to the establishments of some radio campus radio stations in Universities and some cases polytechnics. So far, there are about 20 campus radio stations in Nigeria.
Another University Campus in Nigeria that is about to launch its radio station. Bayero University situated in Kano State in the Northern Part of Nigeria has commissioned an ultra-modern broadcast complex in the faculty of Communication.
The Honourable Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Lai Mohammed who commissioned the project said Bayero university has redefined what mass communication is through its transformation from just a department to a faculty with a state-of-the-art facility to aid teaching, training and research. He commended the university’s management and departmental staff for making it a reality.
The Institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Mohammad Yahuza Bello said at the 34th convocation ceremony of the university that the installation of digital equipment is at an advanced stage. He sees the licence granted by the NBC as an excellent achievement for the university and the faculty of communication.
The broadcast complex houses three studios which will serve as a television studio, radio studio and print office respectively. It also houses a room of 150 computers for students to use for research and production.
Bello also hinted that BUK had made an application to the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) for a television license and as soon as it is approved, television broadcasting will commence, giving students exposure and technical-know-how before they graduate.
