Connecting Africa: Intelsat To Offer Cheaper 2G Solutions To Operator

Intelsat, the global satellite and connectivity services organisation, has announced it will launch a connectivity solution that will provide 2G services in remote locations via the Africa wireless networks initiative.

The new service, IntelsatOne Mobile Reach will collaborate with service provider Bcom and use technology from Newtec to deliver a service that will provide the 'basic, cheaper mobile voice services' in remote and far-flung locations across Africa.

The company is hoping that with more than 500 million African's still relying on the use of simple 2G network services, there might be some commercial opportunities available for it and its partners.
