South Africa: Minister Parleys With Broadcasters On New 2018 Digital Switchover Deadline
South Africa's Minister for Communications, Ms Ayanda Dlodlo is scheduled to hold urgent talks with the country's broadcasters with a view to bringing the digital migration process back on track.
South Africa is now looking to complete the analogue to digital switchover by December 2018.
A source close to Minister Dlodlo confirmed that she'd be meeting with the principal people from SABC, Etv, StarSat, Multichoice and other key stakeholders in the DTT environment. The aim of the 'crucial' meeting is to seek the assistance of all relevant stakeholders to help the South African government achieve the December 2018 deadline.
The issue of set-top box encryption has been the stalking issue for the DTT programme and with the June 8 decision by the South African Supreme Court, it does now seem that the way is paved for the digital migration process to be fully implemented without further delay.
