Nigeria: New Channel "Tambarin Hausa TV" To Start On StarTimes In June
StarTimes Nigeria will be debuting a new Channel called "Tambarin Hausa TV", which, according to the promoters, will focus on news from India, America, Germany, Britain, Saudi Arabia, China, Ghana, Cameroon and the Niger Republic.
During a media briefing in Kano, Muhammad Sani Utai, the Deputy Chairman of the station, announced that the channel is set to break linguistic barriers through the sharing of Hausa culture and tradition with the rest of the world. With an international focus, the first week of news will be directed at sending out news updates from six geo-political zones within Nigeria to provide audiences with a full view of the country.
The Deputy Chairman also highlighted that the station had hired seasoned media personnel that have a complete understanding and utilisation of modern television production, as well as seamless communication fieldwork. The hired personnel were selected based on the station's trust in them for having the ability to ensure that the channel makes its mark to all Hausa viewers, said Utai.
Outside of StarTimes, the channel is said to be available to free-air satellites with a plan to broadcast programmes on GOtv, DStv, and MYtv platforms.
Addressing the new channel, the Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the Kano region urged the management of Tambarin Hausa TV to follow all codes of conduct and professionalism in the running of the stations. The Chairman also advocated for the employees to be allowed to join any association or union of their choice.
