South Africa: MTN Announces Data And Voice Price Drop!
MTN South Africa has announced the cutting of its prepaid pricing for data and voice calls. The popular mobile operator has also announced a new plan called EverydayTalk for voice calls and changes to its already existing data plan called EverydayGigs.
The two focused plans are offering voice and data options starting at R29 (US$2) for 1GB for one day’s validity and R8 (US$0.60) for up to 15minutes of voice calls, valid for three days. The telco has also cut some of its data plans, including its 30GB option, which offers 1 GB per day of data over 30 days, and they have introduced a 90GB option, offering 3GB of data per day at R699 (US$50).
The newly introduced EverydayTalk plan offers users 1800 minutes of calls at 60 minutes a day for R299 (US$21) for 30days. There is also a weekly plan which provides 210 minutes of voice calls at 30 minutes a day for R49 (US$3.50). The tariffs are for both on the network and off-network calls.
EverydayGigs was first introduced in May 2020. The plan was created with customer convenience in mind, whereby prepaid customers could pay once and receive an allocation of data every day instead of recharging with airtime and then converting the airtime to data bundles. According to reports, the highlighted plans are in-tariff plans and not ad hoc rated, for both data and voice. Adhoc rates will be subject to different pricing.
