Programmes: SABC2 Cancels Lifestyle Magazine Show After 23
Twenty-three years and twenty-eight seasons later, a "tribute season" of long-running SABC2's Afrikaans lifestyle magazine show has been confirmed. The show Pasella will, according to media reports, be taken off air as of January 2022.
The show's axing is part of the ongoing restructuring of SABC2's linear schedule to replace old programmes with deteriorating ratings with new on-air content that could lure more viewers back to the channel.
The SABC2 Channel Head, Gerhard Pretorius, said that Pasella had adapted itself to the changes in television trends over the years. This has made the decision to cut the show a hard one; however, the new schedule introduced in April 2021, which aims to diversify SABC's Afrikaans magazine offering, made the cutting of the show a necessary one. The cancellation of Pasella will enable the channel to showcase different stories representing our nation's diversity. It will also offer more opportunities for independent producers to bring their creative works to the channel, said Pretorius.
According to media reports, the tribute season will be made up of some of the presenters from previous years and show the history of the series and everyone who created and produced the series, including the veteran Pasella crew and staff behind the scenes.
Maritha Greenland, SABC2's Commissioning Editor, says that Pasella will end with a final episode that will be a wrap party called a "Pasella Party" to give the show a proper heartfelt goodbye.
