StarTimes Secures UEFA EURO 2020 Broadcasting Rights For Africa!

StarTimes Ghana Head of Marketing, Akofa Banson, announced the UEFA EURO 2020 tournament broadcasting rights acquisition during a press conference in Accra. According to Banson, the pay-tv channel will live broadcast all the 51 UEFA 2020 games across its five sports channels in High-Definition (HD) across their platforms, including the StarTimes ON streaming applications. Additionally, the secured broadcasting rights allows the service provider to broadcast the competition across sub-Saharan Africa.

During the press conference address, Banson said StarTimes would televise more than 140 hours of the UEFA European Football Championship 2020 starting from Friday, 11 June through to the Final, which will occur on Sunday, 11 July. StarTimes is proud to be giving subscribers a front-row seat to all the 51 EURO 2020 games live-in-HD or on a handheld device, said Akofa. StarTimes’ programming for the UEFA European Football Championship will feature a 30-minute pre-game segment, halftime, and post-game studio segments.

EUFA 2020 is significant because, for the first time in the 60 years of the tournament, the competition will be played in 11 cities, continentwide, said the Head of Marketing. Twenty-four teams have qualified for the matches, including FIFA World Cup finalists France and Croatia, semi-finalists Belgium and England, and the defending champions, Portugal.

Media reports have highlighted that StarTimes has expanded its portfolio by securing broadcast rights for various sporting events such as Bundesliga, UEFA Europa League, Ghana Premier League, Coppa Italia, Copa Del Rey LALIGA, the Emirates FA Cup, and now the UEFA Euro 200.
