Multichoice Uganda, in association with Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) and other partners, has launched the 8th edition of the Uganda Film Festival (UFF).
According to reports, this year's edition of the five-day film festival opened at Acacia Mall in Kisementi under the theme "Rebuilding a Resilient Creative Industry through the Pandemic". The festival is intended to run from 29 March to 2 April 2021 and is aimed at streamlining and developing Uganda's film industry.
The Director of Legal Affairs at Uganda Communication Commission addressed the audience at the opening, saying, UFF has provided a platform to promote the immense talent.
Additionally, she commended the Ugandan filmmakers for having continued to be creative and innovative and created a robust film industry.
The Head of Marketing at Multichoice, Colin Asiimwe, added a few words during the opening. His remarks highlighted Multichoice Uganda as being this year's platinum sponsor with various prizes for festival participates to win from. He added, Multichoice Uganda is vested in forging partnerships that facilitate growth, development, marketing, and showcasing content and the film industry at large.
As part of the sponsorship, we will enrol the scriptwriters that emerge from this year's Uganda Film Festival into Multichoice Talent Factory (MTF), an initiative that we launched to train and certify passionate film producers, writers, editors and production managers and actors onto a Masterclass on scriptwriting, said Asiimwe.
Asiimwe also revealed that all winning films would be given an opportunity to air on Pearl Magic and Pearl Magic Prime. Additionally, Multichoice Uganda will be offering a cash prize of Sh10 million (US$2700) and a mentorship programme with M-Net Studios in South Africa.
