Netflix Commissions Hit Film Happiness Is A Four-Letter Word Sequel
In 2016, Happiness is a Four-Letter Word, a story based on Nozizwe Cynthia Jele' novel about three friends who try and find their happiness while maintaining images of success and acceptability is South Africa, made its debut.
According to the latest reports, Netflix has commissioned a sequel to the film titled Happiness Ever After. The sequel will tell a re-imagined romantic story set 5 years after the first film. It will capture the first film's theme by drawing back to the most important lessons, such as sisterhood and friendship. However, the story has been reconceptualised to include a new romantic twist that the audience can look forward to.
The sequel is said to live independently from the book; nevertheless, some of the old characters will be returning to bring more drama and more spark in the sequel, said Kanyi Mbau. Reports have also shared some of the crew members returning to the production, such as Thabang Moleya, who directed the 2016 film, which Busisiwe Ntintili wrote. Moleya has returned for the 2021 sequel, with newcomer Ayanda Halimana being the film's screenwriter.
The Netflix commissioned Happiness Ever After is set in Johannesburg with Bongiwe Selane from Happiness in a Four-Letter Word returning as the Producer. Our vision is to take audiences somewhere new, said Renate Stuurman. The story is set 5 years later from where we left the character on Happiness Is A Four-Letter Word. We saw it fit as the cast, crew, and producers to take our audiences to somewhere new, he added.
