Lupita Nyongo and Kukua Partner Up In Animation Content
Oscar-winning performer, Lupita Nyongo, has opened her wings and partnered up with a media and technology start-up company to produce Africa's first kid superhero animated series.
The Kenyan actress has taken a role, not only as a stakeholder but also as an executive producer of an animated series called Super Sema. In speaking about the partnership, Lucrezia Bisignani, Founder of Kukua, said the team is proud to have partnered with the multitalented Lupita. She has inspired millions of people across the world. He also added that the aim is to build the next big global kids' franchise, starting with the Super Sema series.
Lupita Nyongo added, "I am so proud to have partnered up with a female-led group of creators with whom I share the same outlook and vision. Our goal with Kukua is to empower children by inspiring stories in which the characters reflect themselves".
An observation by the COO of Kukua, Vanessa Ford, highlighted that 74% of TV characters have remained white and only a few portray Black female leads. She further stated that the Super Sema animated series aims to change that narrative. She maintained her stance to echo how she would love for children, including her own, to watch a TV show that motivates them to believe that they can be scientists, inventors, and change-makers.
Monday, 8 March, will be the debut of the eight-episode animated series exclusively on YouTube TV.
