Nigeria: Tribute As Sadiq Daba, Veteran Nigerian Actor And Broadcasters Passes
The Nigerian broadcasting and creative community mourn the passing of a legendary actor and broadcaster, Mr Sadiq Daba, who died on Wednesday 03rd March after a protracted battle with cancer.
Daba was described as the "consummate professional" and iconic star who graced the Nigerian television screens with his "uncanny ability to capture the viewers' imagination that made people want to watch him". His last on-screen role was in the movie 'Citation' by Kunle Afolanyan, who said of Daba: "I loved your talent and mastery of it from watching you as a young person in 'Cock Crow at Dawn'. It was such an honour to work with you on 'Citation'.
Also paying tribute, Mr Femi Odugbemi, a Nigerian filmmaker, said: "We have lost a gem. Sadiq is one of Nigeria's cross-generational artists whose work spanned decades and sustained its excellence and impact."
The Nigerian Information and Culture Minister, Mr Lai Mohammed, described Sadiq Daba as an "iconic thespian" and "a giant of his time". He thanked and praised Mr Daba for helping the Nigerian movie position as "one of the large movie industries in the world".
