StarTimes Clarifies, Says "We're Not Under Wind-Up Court Order"
Further to the report circulating in the media that StarTimes - the Chinese media company - is facing a court-mandated winding-up order if it does not make arrangements to satisfy the up to US$11-million debt it allegedly owes over sports broadcast rights to 'beIN Media Group', StarTimes has now issued a statement to clarify the matter to set the records straight with its stakeholders in Africa.
The statement headlined: "No Wind-up Court Order on StarTimes" and signed by the head of StarTimes public relations team in Nigeria, reads in part: "Following articles published by some media over an alleged dispute between StarTimes and beIN Media Group, StarTimes wishes to state that it has not been subjected to any court order anywhere concerning a dispute with beIN Media Group.
The statement does seem to acknowledge that there is an actual on-going legal proceeding in Honk-Kong between StarTimes and beIN Media on the debt owed issue. It only wishes to stress that any decision reached would not impact its operations in its African markets. StarTimes says it is working assiduously to resolve matters with beIN Media Group and believes it would reach a co-operative solution in short order.
