South Africa: ICASA Will Announce Bidders Of 4 and 5G Spectrum Next Month
ICASA (The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa) has announced that it will now only be announcing the bidders for its forthcoming spectrum auction on the 23rd March 2021. In a stakeholder advisory statement released by the South African industry regulator, it says that: "the announcement of qualified bidders in terms of the International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) Invitation to Apply (ITA) of 2nd October 2020 has been moved from the initial date of 22nd February 2021 to 23rf March 2021."
With the recent move, all processes, procedures, and activities related to the spectrum auction include a bidding seminar. The mock auction and the actual auction itself cannot start before 31st March 2021.
The chairperson of ICASA, Dr Keabetswe Modimoeng, has promised that his organisation will make certain to conclude the spectrum auction process at speed but "without untoward haste. He said: "We indeed assure all stakeholders of our steadfast commitment towards the public interest, and now give certainty that the licensing of high demand spectrum is imminent."
