"Super Sema" - Kenyan Originated Kids Cartoon Series To Launch On YouTube
Kenya-based Kukua has announced it is launching a new kid animation series called "Super Sema". The programme is set to debut on the YouTube platform on 8th March 2021.
According to Vanessa Ford, the chief operating officer at Kukua, Super Sema is about a Black superhero named 'Sema' (means "to speak up" in Swahili). Sema operates in an "African-futuristic" world where along with her brother MB, she uses all her "technovating" powers to save her village from Tobor (the villain) and his army of the very naughty Bongalala robots.
According to YouTube, Super Sema" was written by Claudia Lloyd, a four-time BAFTA winner and directed by Lynne Southerland, the first female African-American director for Disney ("Mulan II"). Vanessa Ford said: "We're happy that we found a home with YouTube, who supports our authenticity and knows that this next generation of children is so global ... so diverse, so globally-minded that carrying different accents, learning a few keywords in every language, is what makes the world a better place."
