Angola: Africell Secures Licence To Become Fourth Mobile Operator
Africell has applauded the regulatory authorities in Angola for awarding it a licence to operate in the Angolan telecoms market, opening it up to the much-needed competition.
A statement issued by the company reads: “A more competitive and transparent market will not only stimulate the telecoms sector as a result of greater innovation and efficiency, but it will also develop complementary sectors such as entertainment, financial services, other technology solutions – improving services, increasing access and creating jobs and opportunities for the Angolan people.”
Africell by virtue of this new license will be the fourth operator in the country. The provider will join existing rivals such as Angola Telecom, Movicel and Unitel, who already established operation in the country.
According to Ziad Dalloul, Group CEO for Africell, the company will hit the ground running, starting with recruiting more than 6,000 local employees that will help roll out its networks and services in the next few years.
