Sony Pictures Television Enters "Content First-Look" Deal With Nigeria's EbonyLife Media
Sony Pictures Television (SPT) - the international production division of Sony Television - has agreed on a two-year exclusive agreement to reserve a right of "first-look" for the scripted TV content produced by Nigeria's EbonyLife Media.
This means that all newly created, originated or developed and produced scripted made-for-TV content from the stables of EbonyLife will have to be seen first by SPT's executives, who will decide whether they want to take it forward or can it.
Recall that EbonyLife Media - owned and operated by Nigerian Mo Abudu - comprises EbonyLife TV, EbonyLife Films, and EbonyLife Studios and has also recently struck production deals with Netflix and AMC Networks. Besides, Mo Abudu has established a working relationship with SPT, previously involved with the company in a co-development and co-production deal in 2018.
Mo Abudu, commenting on the deal, said: "Taking African storytelling to global audiences is something we are very passionate about, and this new opportunity with Sony gives us a chance to reach massive audiences worldwide with our scripted TV series."
Nina Lederman, executive vice president for SPT also commented, saying: "We are delighted to be broadening our relationship with Mo and the team at EbonyLife, who have created some of the most compelling and successful content in all of Africa."
