Nigeria Govt. Welcomes MTN's New CEO, Urge Telcos To Stick To Best Practices
The Nigerian minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa A.I Pantami has pulled the ears of telecoms operators in the country, saying that they must work assiduously to bring global best practices to Nigeria and that corner-cutting for short-term investor advantages should not be tolerated.
Dr Pantami spoke in Abuja, Nigeria, as he welcomed Mr Karl Toriola to his new role as the new chief executive officer of MTN Nigeria. The minister asked the MTN chief if he would ensure his organisation abide by the key business principle that the "Customer is King".
The Communications and Digital Economy minister said: "The priority of this government is the security and welfare of its citizens and as much as we are committed to making our economy business-friendly for investors, we will always put the satisfaction of our citizens as a priority."
Responding to the Nigerian minister, Karl Toriola, the MTN's chief executive said: "we will key into any government policies and initiatives and are willing and open to any collaborations and partnerships that will further advance the digital economy cause".
