Film Festival: Cannes Dates Change - Now Tentatively For 5th - 25th July 2021!
The historic Cannes Film Festival organisers have said it is now confirming the 5th - 25th July as the new dates for the show to take place. According to event organisers, the new dates were decided upon at its board meeting which took place on Tuesday 26th January 2021.
It was decided that the initial dates of 11th - 22nd May were no longer viable, given that France, the host country, is still battling a raging COVID-19 situation which will mean that the country could always be moving in and out of lockdowns in the months leading to May.
Sources said that even the 05th - 25th July dates would not be without its challenges. There are no iron-clad guarantees that COVID-19 status will have improved for governments to allow the kinds of gathering expected to make the show work as close to what is expected.
According to Variety, the organisers have penned in August (as a back-up date) just in case. Also, the leading producer, Spike Lee is still on as the jury president for the 2021 edition, if it doesn't eventually get cancelled!
