PayTV Subscribers In Africa To Reach 51 Million By 2026 - Report
A new analyst report on the African television market has projected that by the end of 2026, PayTV subscribers on the continent will soar up to 51million, adding more than 17million to the current base.
According to the "Africa PayTV Forecast report from Digital TV Research, most subscriber growth will come from the Nigerian market, which is expected to sign-on upwards of 11million subscribers in the period. According to Simon Murray, the Principal Analyst at Digital TV Research, this will be followed closely by growth in the South Africa market.
The market forecast report indicated that between the start of 2021 and end of 2026 Multichoice Africa's subscriber would grow to almost 20million subscribers, highlighting a "marked slowdown on the industry leaders' growth".
According to the Digital TV Research's report, StarTimes/StarSat will see the most "impressive growth" in the African PayTV market. The platform should see its current 10million subscriber base soar to almost 17million by the end of 2026. The Canal+ platform (owned by France's Vivendi) will see a modest growth as its subscriber level is modelled to reach 7.9million from its current base of 5.41million.
