South Africa: e.tv Cancels A 13-Year Long-Running Show "As Part Of Business Strategy"
South Africa's broadcaster, e.tv has cited business strategy as the reason for cancelling its long-running week-day soap show "Rhythm City" that was produced for it by Quizzical pictured. e.tv says it will be looking to replace the show with another drama series.
"Rhythm City" came to e.tv in 2007 and became an almost instant hit, allowing the broadcaster to become proficient it the production and airing of scripted local content, that could be offered prime-time and became a rating puller.
A statement from e.tv suggested that the final episode for the show will air on the 16th July 2021. While there has been no further reason provided by the broadcaster for pulling the plug, analysts wondered whether it is the case that "Rhythm City" is no longer financially viable for the South African broadcaster.
Regardless of the business strategy situation with "Rhythm City", e.tv's chief executive officer, Marlon Davies in a statement said that "e.tv continues to look forward to fulfilling its mandate of producing exceptional and relevant local content, and that Rhythm City has secured its place in e.tv's history books, and a legacy mark has been made."
