Econet Launches' Ubiquitous' Wi-Fi Access Network Across East Africa
Econet announced that it has launched a network of Wi-Fi wireless access platform to provide people with affordable internet access in Kenya, Zambia, Rwanda and Uganda. This is being achieved through a collaborative partnership with value-chain stakeholders.
Promoted through its Liquid Telecom and Cassava Fintech subsidiary, Econet says that this service will help "accelerate sustainable economic development through digital inclusion".
Group chief executive officer for Liquid Telecom, Mr Nic Rudnick commenting on the launch of the initiative said: "We firmly believe that every African has the right to high-speed connectivity, and with this platform, we are making this vision a reality. This initiative is in line with our parent company Econet's vision of an inclusive, connected future that leaves no African behind."
On his part, Darlington Mandivenga, the CEO of Cassava Fintech said that the Wi-Fi Network is "a vital piece in the social and financial digital inclusion agenda that we are passionately driving across Africa, offering more affordable internet access to African communities, including those previously excluded."
The plan is to extend the service across Africa if it record success in these areas where it has been launched.
