Zambia Sees Uptick In Mobile Broadband Investment As Demand Soars
According to the Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA), the number of general mobile phone subscribers as well as mobile data users in the country have been increasing consistently with the resultant uptick in investors coming into the sector.
A mid-year market report from ZICTA revealed that the total number of active mobile internet users in Zambia increased from nine million in the first half of 2019 to nine and a half million in the first half of 2020, almost 4 per cent increase.
Zambia also recorded a significant growth of just over seven per cent in the registered number of subscribers to its mobile network at the end of June 2020. ZICTA is also projecting that by the end of 2020, the country will have around 18.2 million subscribers to its mobile networks and services.
ZICTA said that “What the report shows is that the positive trajectory is going to continue. We will continue to see increased investment which brings about a more stable network.
