South Africa: Cell C To Shut Half Of Physical Stores - Many Job To Go!

South African mobile operator, Cell C, is reportedly in the process of closing down a sizeable number of its physical stores across the country as it continues to battle with grave financial predicament. It is being reported that 128 of its 240 stores will be closed, with an estimated 600 jobs on the line.

A spokesperson said that the shop closures are a result of Cell C becoming a "more agile and revitalised business looking to do things differently. There has to be a change in the way the business operates if it is to be a sustainable company, post recapitalisation."

"Much like banks are moving away from brick and mortar branches, Cell C is embracing digital solutions and driving digital inclusion by leveraging collaborations and partnerships and moving closer to its vision to be a customer champion with innovative service offerings," the spokesperson said.

The financially embattled mobile operator has been implementing a turnaround strategy for over two years now, intending to recapitalise the business by focusing on cost-cutting and operational efficiencies.
