Nigeria: NCC To Review InfraCo Remit To Drive Broadband Plans
Professor Umar Danbatta, the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced that he is seeking a review of the operational framework of the Infrastructure Company (InfraCo) as mandated by the Nigerian New National Broadband Plan 2020 - 2025.
The InfraCo framework is designed to help Nigeria deliver broadband fibre infrastructure to far-flung places in the country, and the review sought by the NCC is to ensure that there is even deployment of the broadband infrastructure across Nigeria.
The NCC's EVC reported that there are a total of six active InfraCo licensees in Nigeria and these are for Raeana Nigeria Limited (South-South Zone); O'dua Infraco Resources Limited (South-West Zone); Fleek Networks Limited (North-West Zone); Brinks Integrated Solutions (North-East Zone); MainOne Limited (Lagos Zone) and Zinox Technologies Limited (South-East Zone).
A seventh InfraCo license is said to be considered by the NCC.
