Nigeria: Regulator Says 79 Million Nigerians Now Connected To Broadband
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced that 2.2 million people were added to Nigeria's broadband access, bringing the total number of people with access to high-speed internet broadband to 78.9 million as at of June 2020.
Also, the rate of broadband penetration in the country is now around 41 per cent, according to the figures from the regulator of Nigeria's communication sector. This figure, it is acknowledged, still is far from the 70 per cent broadband penetration target set by the national government. It says it is doing all it can to accelerate universality of broadband access across Nigeria.
Experts believe that there should be steady growth in broadband penetration in Nigeria given the commitment of telecoms operators to push the deployment of 4G services across the nation aggressively.
MTN, one of the country's leading telco, recently announced that it would be investing up to US 1billion dollars to ensure fast data 4G coverage across the country.
