South Africa: SABC Says It Will Stream UK's FA Cup Final Online
Mr Gary Rathbone, the General Manager of Sports at the South Africa Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has announced that his broadcast organisation will stream the final of the United Kingdom's FA Cup on a "dedicated online portal".
In a statement, the SABC head of Sports said: "As we build-up to the final of one of the most prestigious, oldest, and hotly contested club cup tournaments in the world this Saturday evening, SABC Sport is demonstrating its unswerving commitment to re-engineer itself into a sports broadcaster for the future with the roll-out of the SABC Sport live-streaming portal. It is an opportunity to cater to live football content to our audiences everywhere on digital platforms such as our live-streaming portal."
Mr Rathbone said he is doing this also to demonstrate the importance that SABC, a public free-to-air broadcaster, places on providing value to the public.
The SABC said since it started broadcasting the FA Cup on SABC3, the channel audience share has gone up by 76 per cent. This extraordinary audience rating numbers, the company says, show that sports, and in particular football broadcasts give its audiences with what they want.
