Canal+ And Multichoice Combine To Do "Blood Psalms" - An African Epic
Multichoice Showmax and Canal+ say they are ushering in "a new era of African storytelling" by agreeing on a deal to co-produce an epic pre-colonial African mythology flick, "Blood Psalms". According to the producers, the movie will feature more than 50 black star actors and actresses.
Under the co-production partnership, the 10-part epic will stream on Multichoice Showmax in 2021 as well on both the Canal+ Channel and its myCanal platform.
Ms Yolisa Phale, Multichoice Group's Chief Executive Officer for General Entertainment and Connected Video, said: "This massive co-production highlights Showmax's commitment to its subscribers. This is epic, authentic, original African storytelling like never before. We can't wait to present our exquisite view on African mythology to local and global audiences.
The production executives for this show said that the overriding aim for making Blood Psalms is to make sure that the "golden thread of Africa's history shines through". According to them, Blood Psalms adds to the preservation of African culture, and because it had high entertaining values, it will be enjoyed across the world.
Production of Blood Psalms, according to a statement, became viable following the support of several partners including the South African Department of Trade and Industry (DTi), the South African Eastern Cape Economic Development Corporation (ECDC) and the MultiChoice Innovation Fund.
