Ethiopia: Canal+ Offers Premium Direct-To-Home (DTH) Platform
Canal+ and Eutelsat have agreed what is thought to be a multi-year plan to provide support for Canal+ as it launches its premium DTH platform in Ethiopia. The platform, which is due to be operative from early 2021, is reported to rely on the multi-transponder capacity on Eutelsat 7C, which with its incremental capabilities will help Canal+ offer up to 50 premium channels that will include a variety of local Ethiopian content.
The Chief Executive Officer of Eutelsat Communications, Rodolphe Belmer said this about the deal: “ This agreement highlights the appetite for high quality and varied programming in this dynamic country as well as throughout the broader African continent, which is fastest growing satellite broadcast market. It also confirms the relevance of our investments in selected incremental resources to tap growth pockets in new video markets”.
Jacques du Puy, the Chairman of Canal+ International, commented that the “new platform, which is the first of such offer in the Ethiopian market, will contribute to the already rich and diverse video landscape in this dynamic market and support our commitment to providing high quality, diverse programming in the African continent, where we are already present in 25 countries”.
