Egypt: Court To Decide On The Legality Of YouTube Blocking

The Supreme Administrative Court of Egypt, the highest administrative court in the country has set September 20, 2020, as the date, it will make its final ruling on the case brought before it regarding the blocking of YouTube  - the video-sharing website.
YouTube was initially blocked by authorities in Egypt on religious ground in 2018. The blockage was then put on hold following appeals representation from the Egyptian National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) and the Association for Freedom of Thought and Expression.
Now the highest court in the land must decide if the original YouTube blockage is legal, and should be reinstated. In a twist, YouTube said that it had seen a "massive growth" in its user base in Egypt since the initial blockage was lifted.
