Pay-TV: "Pay-As-You-Go" Billing Helps Bring Television To All - StarTimes Nigeria
Africa's Pay-TV giant, StarTimes, believes that offering people the opportunity to pay for digital television on a "pay-as-you-go" basis is key to providing access to many that might otherwise be shut out of the allures of digital TV.
This assertion underlines the current debate between the Nigerian broadcasting authorities and Multichoice Nigeria, whereby the latter is insisting that the Pay-TV business model does not lend itself to a pay-as-you-go billing format.
However, a StarTimes Nigeria's executive, Lazarus Ibeabuchi, said that not only is it possible for Pay-TV services to allow consumers to use the pay-as-u you-go model, according to him "this type of billing system is reasonable for people who do not spend reasonable time watching television after subscription."
StarTimes says it has been offering the pay-as-you-go subscription billing model in Nigeria since 2017 which the company says allows
"Subscribers can choose to pay daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly and enjoy all exciting content on their preferred package/bouquet valid for the period paid for."
