Nigeria: Lawmakers Set To Reward NCC's Boss With Another 5 Years Tenure
Professor Umar G. Danbatta, the incumbent Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), is set to be re-appointed by the Nigerian government as the country's Senate prepares to wave through his confirmation for another five years.
The confirmation by the Nigerian Senators is said to be in acknowledgement of the "stellar performance" of Professor Danbatta in the past five years of leading the NCC. He has been reported to demonstrate a "deep knowledge of the industry" and has "exceptional leadership quality, which has helped accelerated the growth of the nation's telecoms sector".
During the Senate confirmatory hearing, Professor Danbatta said that the implementation on the assumption of his 8-point Agenda around the areas of service accessibility, availability and affordability helped set the foundation for NCC's achievements of the past five year period.
The EVC thanked the Nigerian government for the faith placed in him, saying he's renewing his commitment to "further accelerate the growth of the telecoms industry as the key driver of the country's digital economy vision over the next five years."
