Showmax Says It's Ramping Up On Local Content - Commissions Two New Drama Series
Showmax - Multichoice's over-the-top (OTT) streaming service - have announced a slate of new content, with a focus on improving the level of 'local content' on its catalogue. The platform is reportedly commissioning two new local drama series with 2021 planned release dates.
This included the launch of a new reality series with Kelly Khumalo which according to executives at Showmax will offer viewers "an intimate glimpse at the woman behind the headlines: a single mother of two who is juggling parenting".
The award-winning Showmax Original show - Tali's Wedding Diary - has also been renewed for a second season to be released in 2021. This session show is being called Tali's Baby Diary.
Ms Candice Fangueiro, head of content at Showmax, hailed the local content programming on Showmax as impressive, saying that "If you look at something like the first view metric, which asks what's the first show someone watches after signing up for Showmax, three out of the top 5 first view pieces of content are now local."
