Zimbabwe: Econet’s Customers Unhappy With Network Outages
Econet Zimbabwe - the country’s largest mobile network operator, has had to issue an apology to its customers for yet another network outage. The outage reportedly left subscribers with no access to data services, although the mobile money services were, this time, operational.
It is also to be noted that in 2019, a similar outage on ECOCASH - Econet’s mobile money services left its users in Zimbabwe in the lurch of not being able to access and conduct their transactions.
According to the Post and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz), more than half of Zimbabweans rely on mobile connectivity to access the internet or for data services, and as such find it unacceptable that the Econet networks keep going offline.
Econet blamed the outage on a technical problem they were experiencing on the core network switch and that affected voice and data services across the country. Econet, in an update, has, however, confirmed the restoration of regular services.
