South Africa: Cell C Looking To Shed Hundreds Of Workers
South Africa telco, Cell C has announced that it is a consultation process that will lead to the reduction of more than 900 of its current work-force. The affected staff could include members of the junior management cadre as well as ‘semi-skilled’ staff.
In a statement, CellC affirmed that the move was part of the restructuring mandated by the implementation of its adopted new operating model, which has already seen the organisation retrench 30 senior management members in May.
Cell C says that all this is part of an aggressive cost-cutting, which, together with its ‘revised network strategy’ will help it thrive in an ever-changing competitive market environment. Although no final decision has been made with regards this retrenchment round, the CEO of Cell C, Mr Douglas C Stevenson has declared his commitment to making the organisation has agile and efficient as possible.
