MTN Has ‘Significant Market Power In Ghana’ Says NCA
The Ghanian National Communication Authority has declared MTN as having a significant market power in the country, and this means there could be a move to take corrective actions under the relevant regulations and guidelines.
Referencing Ghana’s National Telecommunications Policy, a network operator with more than 40% market share is considered as having significant market power. According to statistics from Ghana’s Ministry of Communications, MTN has about a seventy-five per cent share of the market. And this has stayed consistent for the past three years.
To avoid an uncompetitive landscape, the industry regulator in Ghana says it will consult to seek ways that will ensure a more level-playing field to secure the continued growth of the telecommunications industry.
