Seychelles Seeks Law To Establish Per Second Billing In Its Telco Market
The island nation of Seychelles is reported to be reviewing its current Broadcasting and Telecommunications Act to change the charging scheme of mobile telecommunications from the current per-minute to per-second billing.
According to Seychelles' Department of Information and Communications Technology is currently about US$0.23 per minute to make a prepaid call in Seychelles.
Mr Benjamin Choppy, the Principal Secretary in the department, told the media that the per-minute billing is not in line with global standards and best practices. As such, the government of Seychelles will look to introduce a bill to institute the per-second billing.
The regulation will likely come into effect from the start of 2021.
