As CNBC Africa Turns 13, Owners Explore New Operating Models Post COVID-19
CBNC Africa - the quintessential news channel providing localised, Africa-focused business news is this week, celebrating its thirteen years on-air.
Launched by the African Broadcasting Network (ABN), CNBC Africa - franchised from the American CNBC TV network - is on DStv and StarSat 309 in South Africa. It has news bureaus in Johannesburg (South Africa), Kigali (Rwanda) as well as in Lagos (Nigeria).
Speaking on the achievement of it CNBC Africa, ABN's group managing director, Roberta Naicker said the "CNBC Africa is the game-changer championing and showcasing Africa's business and economic landscape.
While celebrating becoming a 'teenager', the owners of CNBC Africa are, reportedly, also now reviewing strategic options for the organisation in light of the realities brought about by the Coronavirus.
According to a senior CNBC Africa executive, the experience from the Covid-19 pandemic has shown that although the news was seen as essential service, there was virtually little or no advertising and support during the period. It is, therefore, felt that a new operating model ought to be considered.
