Intelsat Reassures Multichoice Africa There Is No Effect On Services Despite 'Financial Restructuring'
Satellite services company, Intelsat has reassured DStv, and it's other clients in Africa that its services are not affected by the Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection that it is seeking in the United States.
Speaking to MyBroadband, Intelsat spokesperson clarified that chapter 11 protection does not mean Intelsat is bankrupt but instead has to do with the company protecting its assets and restructuring its balance sheet in order to effectively participate in the US Federal Communications Commission clearing of the C-band spectrum for 5G in the United States.
According to the spokesperson, the Chapter 11 process is a simple mechanism used to restructure finances while operations continue as usual.
Multichoice uses Intelsat-20 and 36 satellites to carry it DStv signals across Africa, and a representative of Multichoice has also told the press that they are aware of reports about Intelsat and that Multichoice is confident this will not affect any of its services.
