South Africa’s Top Drama Series 'Uzalo' Runs Out Of Episodes - Reports
South Africa’s most-watched drama series Uzalo on SABC1 has been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and will be going off the air for five weeks because the production company and the SABC have reportedly run out of episodes.
The last new episode of Uzalo, which is produced by Stained Glass TV, on location in KwaZulu-Natal’s Durban and Kwa Mashu aired this past Friday on SABC1 at 20:30.
A repeat of Makoti, another drama series, will now replace the soapie in its timeslot as from today, Monday 11 May.
With more households watching TV during the coronavirus lockdown, Uzalo had reached a new high watermark of over 11.4 million viewers for its most-watched episode in April, a new South African TV ratings record.
With South Africa’s national lockdown being lowered to Level 4, filming on Uzalo resumed again this past week on Wednesday but not with enough time to shoot and edit episodes in time to deliver them to the public broadcaster’s programming acceptance department to ensure an uninterrupted continuation in playout.
Uzalo will go off-air between Monday 11 May and Friday 12 June and will return with new episodes on Monday 15 June, according to the show’s producers.
