MultiChoice Pledges To Invest $238K In Community TV Stations

As part of the MultiChoice Group’s (MCG’s) continued initiative to support the local video entertainment sector, the company has pledged to support three of South Africa’s community TV stations with an investment of over $238 000.

The pay-TV giant says that each of the selected stations will receive approximately $79 490.00 funding for the creation of new content.

Towards the end of 2019, MCG had called on community TV stations across South Africa to submit original content ideas to be considered.
MCG said that it had received many exciting proposals, including locally-produced reality shows, docu-series, comedy sitcoms and current affairs programmes.
Each submission was reviewed, taking into account audience appeal and originality.

The company noted that the proposals from Soweto TV, Tshwane TV and Bay TV stood out and were then selected for funding.

The CEO of Soweto TV Thabo Molefe said that the station is thrilled to have been selected. He added that this investment from MultiChoice would not only deliver new content to the schedule, but it would also be an investment in talent and empower new storytellers.

MCG said that it had a history of supporting South Africa’s community channels, including Cape Town TV, Gau TV and 1KZN TV.

Reggy Moalusi, MultiChoice SA’s Executive Head of Corporate Affairs said that MultiChoice is making these investments to broaden access to African storytelling and create platforms for local content creators to tell their stories.
