Bandwidth Cost Is The Biggest Obstacle To OTT Content Streaming In Africa - BMA Industry Survey
Respondents to the currently ongoing BMA’s industry survey on the State of Play of OTT Streaming and Content on Demand in Africa, have identified bandwidth cost as the most significant obstacle to the progress of OTT content streaming in Africa.
In response to the section on the survey asking what industry stakeholders view as the biggest obstacle to the “take-off” of OTT and On-Demand streaming in Africa, bandwidth cost was fingered by 50% of respondents as the main obstacle, while 26% of the respondents said it is bandwidth availability.
15% of the industry executives who responded believed that “Securing adequate content rights” was their key issue, and just under 7% pointed to lack of consumer awareness.
It seems that internal management and buy-in is not a major issue at all, as only 2% of the survey participants cited this as a significant obstacle to the progress of OTT streaming in Africa.
Broadcast Media Africa is currently engaged in a programme focused on OTT Streaming and Content on Demand In Africa aimed to provide players intelligence on trends in the industry.
