Nigeria: DSO Crucial To Regulation Of Broadcast Sector – Govt Minister
The Digital Switch Over (DSO) project is a critical component for the effective regulation of the broadcast sector in Nigeria, and its implementation should be given maximum priority. This is according to Mohammed Bello, Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Speaking during a meeting with officials of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) led by the Director-General Ishaq Modibbo Kawu, the Minister expressed his satisfaction in that the global recognition of the excellent technology deployed in Nigeria’s DSO project was a primary source of confidence in the success of achieving qualitative innovations of the DSO project for the benefit of Nigeria’s people and government.
Malam Mohammed Bello emphasised the outstanding enhancements of broadcast quality on the DSO platforms that are already operating in the country despite the challenges in the industry, noting that the NBC had performed well in rolling out the program efficiently. He pointed out that once completed, the DSO would restore sanity in the broadcast sector.
The Minister then urged the NBC to go ahead with implementing the measures in the sixth edition of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code that are aimed at protecting citizens and institutions from unprofessional broadcasters that spread hate speech to disrupt peaceful coexistence.
In his remarks, the NBC’s Director-General Ishaq Modibbo Kawu thanked the Minister for his diligence and commitment to result-oriented administration and to making the FCT function to meet the people’s expectations.
