Netflix Commissions Second Egyptian Original Series

Netflix has announced that it has commissioned its second Egyptian original series, a partnership with the satirical puppet character Abla Fahita, a popular figure in the region.

Scheduled for release sometime in 2020, the show will be produced by OKWRD production in collaboration with EP Amin El Masri and ASAP Productions. The comedy-drama will follow Fahita’s as her life is turned upside down following her massive stardom. It will also mark the puppet character’s first attempt at acting in a scripted TV series.

Ahmed Sharkawi, Egypt’s Director of International Originals at Netflix said that the streaming giant is excited to be collaborating with Abla Fahita as she is one of the most popular comedians in North Africa and the wider Arab region.

Commenting on her collaboration with Netflix, Abla Fahita said that she is thrilled to be working with Netflix on this latest project. She also added that what excites her the most is that Netflix would be releasing the series in more than 20 languages to be watched in 190 countries by over 158 million viewers worldwide.

She continued to say that she hopes that her Egyptian Sense of humour will help relieve the world of its misery.
