Eutelsat Inks First-Ever Cirrus Deal In Africa

Eutelsat Communications has announced that it has signed a multi-year contract with Orao Telecom Congo for video capacity on one of its satellites that is located at 7 degrees East. In an exciting first for the African continent, Orao Telecom Congo also confirmed that it has signed up for Eutelsat Cirrus.

In mid-December this year, Orao will roll out a pay-TV package of no less than 15 channels featuring exclusive Congolese content. The Direct-to-Home (DTH) package will be broadcast across the Democratic Republic of Congo, while Orao will also make use of the Eutelsat Cirrus content delivery platform to deliver an Over-the-Top (OTT) service that is aimed at the greater Congolese diaspora worldwide.

Philippe Oliva, the Chief Commercial Officer at Eutelsat, said that Eutelsat is proud to have been selected by Orao to roll out its new TV offer. He added that this particular contract would be a reflection both of the unmatched reach of Eutelsat’s 7 degrees East orbital position over the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as its impressive portfolio of services and solutions that enable broadcasters to reach viewers globally through a satellite/OTT service.
