Globacom Regains No.2 Spot In Nigeria With 2Million New Customers
Globacom’s subscriber base has increased its subscriber base with 2 million new users in Nigeria this September. The growth is said to be the largest in the country’s telecoms market, according to latest stats released by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
In the report released for September 2019, Globacom gained a record 1,945,846 new customers. With the new additions, the company’s subscriber base shot up from 47,265,628 in August to an impressive 49,211,474, the second-largest customer base in the industry.
Airtel had briefly occupied the second spot in the industry but reported a subscriber base of 48,909,678 at the end of September. It is now the third-largest telecoms operator in Nigeria.
The NCC statistics revealed that it was only Airtel and Globacom that gained new subscribers on their networks, as MTN and 9mobile both saw a decline in active subscriptions for the month.
According to industry sources, Globacom’s record performance in September was caused by improved service delivery following the continuous upgrade of its infrastructure.
Although MTN remains the largest mobile operator in Nigeria, it lost over 379,795 subscribers in September. This decreased its subscriber numbers to 65,328,104, a number which is considerably less than the 65,707,899 it had recorded in August.
9mobile, lost 268,159 subscribers in the month of the review, diving from 15,602,255 in August to approximately 15,334,096 in September.
