NBC Grants Satellite Broadcast Licence To Nigerian University
The National Broadcasting Commission has granted approval for a Direct Satellite Broadcast (DSB) licence for Bayero University in Kano, Nigeria.
The NBC’s Director-General, Ishaq Kawu, said that the licence would allow the University to operate its own television station and also train its students in television broadcasting as the Commission has enjoyed a long partnership with the University in the area of broadcast journalism.
The University already has a community radio station which is currently serving the institution and its students.
The University’s Vice-Chancellor, Muhammad Bello, expressed his gratitude to Mr Kawu and the management of NBC for the newly issued TV licence.
He promised that the University would use the licence appropriately and in accordance with the stipulated guidelines of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code for the good of the broadcasting industry and the development of Nigeria.
Mr Bello said that the TV licence could not have arrived at a better time, given the current unbundling of Mass Communication in the institution.
He added that the licence would be used for the practical training of students in investigative journalism and broadcasting, and it would also give the students the opportunity to practise.
