MultiChoice Rolls Out WWE Pop-Up Channel On DStv
MultiChoice has announced that it is adding a WWE wrestling pop-up channel to its DStv pay-TV platform for five months from August until the end of December on channel 128 for viewers to watch wrestling shows like SmackDown Live, Raw and special events such as WrestleMania and the SummerSlam on an exclusive wrestling channel.
The WWE pop-up channel will launch on 1 August and will be available to DStv Premium, DStv Compact and DStv Compact Plus subscribers until 31 December. On the other hand, DStv Access and DStv Family subscribers will get access to the new WWE pop-up channel for only three weeks until 21 August.
While the WWE brand is struggling in the United States where it is facing new competition from All Elite Wrestling (AEW), WWE has increasingly been seeking out international markets in Africa to grow revenue and also attract fans and a new audience for its content.
SuperSport acquired the WWE licensing rights from e.tv in 2017.
Gideon Khobane, the CEO of Supersport, said that WWE had proved to be an excellent acquisition for viewers all across the continent.
He added that the new pop-up channel is a natural evolution that shows the growth and excitement around the Supersport broadcasts of WWE.
