South African Film, Stroop, Receives International Award
The South African breakout film STROOP – journey into the rhino horn war, has won the highly sought-after Genesis Award in the Brigitte Bardot International Documentary Feature Film division in the United States.
The Genesis Awards recognises outstanding work in media, especially projects that report on animal protection issues.
Bonné de Bod, a filmmaker and the presenter of STROOP said that she and the film’s production team are thrilled to be receiving such honour for this crowd-funded film that pays homage to the heroes that are working hard to end Africa’s rhino poaching crisis.
The wildlife crime documentary received further praise from the Senior Director of the Genesis Awards, Beverly Kaskey, who said that she is so grateful that STROOP chose to place focus on the critical issue of rhino horn poaching.
She added that this richly informative project would be listed among the best works from the past year that put a spotlight on animal protection issues.
This recognition from the United States follows the film’s first recognition in South Africa – the ‘Audience Prize for Best South African Film’ that SROOP was awarded at the Encounters South African International Documentary Festival which took place in Cape Town recently.
