Safaricom Launches' Reverse Call' Feature

Safaricom has launched a reverse call feature that enables its clients to make calls on a zero airtime balance.

The service enables the caller to transfer the cost of the call to the receiver by adding a '#' before the number that is being called.
For example, to transfer the cost of a call to 0722000000, the customer would dial #0722000000.

The service is aimed at increasing voice traffic for the telecoms service provider at a time when the majority of its income is coming from data revenue and M-Pesa.

Safaricom's Chief Customer Officer, Sylvia Mulinge, said that Safaricom continues to stand by its commitment to providing its subscribers with products that are in line with their needs.

The person who receives a reverse call request would see the caller's details on the phone screen as usual. But once they answer the call, they would receive a voice prompt asking them to select whether they accept or reject the reverse call.
The cost of the call will be equal to the receiver's standard call charges.

However, the service will only be available on calls within the Safaricom network and will not be available for roaming, off-net and international calls.
